The Book

Voices: Audio Evidence for Survival of the Soul is a book/CD package like no other. Within its pages, and by listening to the 56 individual tracks on the free CD, you will read about and listen to spirit communication concerning life after death, reincarnation, guardian angels, prophecy, love; you will even hear human souls talking to each other whilst still in earthly bodies.

Below, there are three short extracts taken from three separate chapters, accompanied by an audio clip of Meta Speech to illustrate each. The first deals with direct contact from a disembodied spirit (the author’s own father); the second shows how scepticism concerning the existence of angels produced a very sobering message; the third illustrates the fact that many psychic mediums are frauds – listen as one medium’s own soul admits as much. You will hear the forward statement once, followed by the Meta Speech at three different speeds.

From ‘The Venetian Experience’

Towards the end of this particular recording session, I suddenly felt a ‘presence’ in the room and ‘electricity’ started to flow through my body. I am not psychic and, although I have had several strange experiences in my life, this was not a normal occurrence for me. However, intuitively I felt it was my father, and in voicing this opinion I got the following result.

… he’s coming very close now … (6) My hands work, hear me Rick

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, progressive disorder, causing pain in the fingers, knees, elbows, hips; in fact, anywhere in the body where there is a joint between bones. For several years before my father died, he was crippled with arthritis. His hands were particularly bad. He couldn't hold anything properly, and even turning the pages of a book was difficult. ‘Rick’ was the name I was called as a child (a shortening of Roderick), but the last time I was called that was over 40 years ago. I was now starting to believe that I really had made contact with my dear, departed father. Yet even this could not prepare me for what I was to discover next.

From ‘Heaven… and Hell’

William Barrett, Professor of Physics at the Royal College of Science in Dublin in the early part of the 20th century, made several observations concerning the final days and hours of his own dying patients in a booklet entitled Deathbed Visions. Many times at the moment of death, he noted, people would see a friend or relative at their bedside whom they believed to be alive. In all cases when it was checked out, however, it was discovered that the person they saw had died before them without their knowledge. Professor Barrett also reported that dying children often expressed considerable surprise that the angels they saw waiting for them did not have wings.

Despite this, I still had terrible difficulty believing in angels. If it wasn't simply the logic of the situation that disturbed me, it certainly would have been the fact that New Agers treated them like cupey dolls. I recall reading once something along the lines of ’Archangel Michael revealed that as the vibrational frequency of Mother Earth is moving up the scale in octaves, the veils of illusion that have kept us locked in fear and separation, are being lifted from around us.’ Yea, right. I have just one thing to say to that: Zimbabwe – at the time of writing genocide is in full flow. Want more? How about Iraq (who could forget those ‘Shock and Awe’ tactics), Afghanistan, the starving millions in Africa, children in Asia working for a dollar a day making footballs, 9/11, the lady at the end of your street who got mugged by young thugs last week. So I had trouble with the concept of the planet being guided by beings from a loving angelic realm.

Then I flicked the button on the tape machine again.

I'd heard myself saying: "I don't believe in angels. Yet who is he? If there really is someone watching over me, where does he come from?" Playing this sentence back in reverse I discovered that where I said "Yet who is he?" there was a very clear example of Meta Speech that stated quite simply:

(13) He is your angel

From ‘Speaking in Tongues’

Fraud is not easily proven in a court of law, particularly when dealing with the psychic arts. So we will simply talk about dishonesty, which is dark and dirty. The medium I am about to discuss is completely dishonest, taking money off largely gullible and sometimes desperate people; a ‘business’ he practices in a variety of locations, including pubs.

In the summer of 2005 I was sitting in a local pub with a few friends when the landlord announced that he had booked a clairvoyant for the afternoon as ‘entertainment’. Psychic readings are a way to find out things you don't know or aren't sure of. Since the beginning of time there have been psychics predicting future events and contacting the dead. And some of them are excellent; 95% are frauds though, including the pub medium, who claimed that his readings empowered clients, helping them to know that, whilst decisions are in their hands, they are being guided by the world of spirit. That may well be true, but our medium can’t possibly know this as he is not psychic in any way, shape or form!

He was cheap, I’ll give him that; £10 for around 10 minutes. But I instantly took a disliking to him, and came to the conclusion that he was cold reading, a term used in the magician’s trade to describe the practical use of the Barnum Effect in the give-and-take of an interview situation. Though interest in the technique by professional psychologists dates from the late l940s, it has long been put to profitable use by clairvoyants, tarot card readers, mediums, and others who wish to convey the impression that they possess paranormal insight into the client’s personality, current life situation, and future.

Despite my look of disgust, one of my friends decided to have a reading ‘for a laugh’, and duly handed over a crisp £10 note. The ‘medium’ asked if he wanted the session taped for an extra £2: my friend looked over at me, and I nodded my head in affirmation.

Put simply, cold reading is the technique of saying general things and watching a person’s reactions. As one goes from very general to more specific subjects, one notes the reaction and uses it as a guide to find out what to say. Even so, upon completion of the reading my friend was not too impressed, explaining that most of it was very vague, could relate to almost anyone, or was extremely inaccurate.

The Meta Speech supported this supposition. You will hear the medium say “father’s ex-work friends, he came down to visit them.” What he was really saying, however, was:

(49) I’m making this up!
